Interim Nurse Practitioner - Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

Minimally invasive surgery can be a good way to treat gynecologic conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts and endometriosis. These procedures often cause less pain, heal more quickly and leave smaller scars. Performed by specially trained surgeons, these advanced procedures often cause less pain, leave smaller scars, heal more quickly and carry a lower risk of infection.
The Nurse Practitioner reports to the Program Director and performs under the direction of the assigned supervising physician of the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Program Team and is a collaborative member of the team. The NP will function as a dependent practitioner with decision-making responsibility in accordance with the AHP Rules and Regulations and established standardized procedures and clinical protocols.
The Nurse Practitioner will see pre & post and follow-up patients under the supervision of the Attending Physician(s). The NP will co-manage the long-term medical care of this patient population. This follow-up care and management includes the following responsibilities:
• Management of the health care of the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery patient population under the supervision of the attending physician.
• Perform history and physical examination.
• Order diagnostic testing such as lab, Imaging, EKG and utilize results for formulating treatment plan.
• Review diagnostics studies and take appropriate action.
• Order blood products, fluid and electrolytes therapy, restraints and other non-operative therapeutic modalities
• Prescribe medication as needed for symptom management in compliance with the Standardized Procedure.
• Administer medications as privileged and described as part of the plan of care.
• Complete medication reconciliation as required by CSMC policy
• Provide patient/family education; provide patients and family with information on the plan of care.
• Record progress notes.
• Record discharge summaries.
• Refer to multidisciplinary teams as appropriate.
• Assist the clinical team with triaging phone calls.
Qualifications
Education:
- MSN required
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required
License/Certification:
- Current, unrestricted State of California Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner Licenses required
- National Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner required
- Current NP Furnishing License required
- DEA license or eligibility to obtain required
- BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of acute care nursing experience required
- Experience working with Gynecologic Surgery patients preferred
- 1+ years experience as a Nurse Practitioner strongly preferred
